Last week, I was invited to a reception inaugurating the De-Light Summer Menu at Sofitel New York‘s (45 West 44th between 5th and 6th Avenues) Gaby Brasserie Française.
The evening began in the hotel’s Presidential Suite, where hors d’oeuvres and champers freely flowed. After nearly an hour of mingling and gluttony, we proceeded to a dining room – which appeared detached from the actual restaurant – right next to the lobby.
Although I don’t have photos of the meal, I can admit that I was quite satisfied with everything served…in other words, the plates were indeed, light and not overpowering. Take a look at the invite for the menu, which was partially inspired by the gardens at Versailles, just outside of Paris, France:Each plate was paired with either a French or Californian wine or champagne, and due to the healthy tendency of the dishes, no bread was served. Very different experience from my last time at the Sofitel.
Additionally, if you pay close attention to the above menu, you may notice that it is “resting” on top of a plate. The dishware was provided by the famed French porcelain company known as Bernardaud. Each guest received a candle holder as a going-away present.
All in all, it was a memorable evening with good food and company to match.
